Communities In Schools of the Midlands (CIS Midlands) is a local non-profit agency that is a part of the nation's leading community-based organization helping kids succeed in school and prepare for life. We work in Columbia, South Carolina with Richland one and Richland two School Districts.
CIS partners with families, schools, businesses and community leaders to broker resources into the schools and create a support system for students. CIS has a unique philosophy. We believe that every child needs and deserves the Five Basics:
- A personal, one-on-one relationship with a caring adult
- A safe place to learn and grow
- A healthy start and a healthy future
- A marketable skill to use upon graduation
- A chance to give back to peers and community

During the 2007-2008 school year, CIS Midlands will serve the needs of students at the following schools:

Olympia Learning Center
The Midlands AmeriCorps*VISTA Partnership is a joint-agency effort involving Communities In Schools of the Midlands, the Capital Senior Center, the Girl Scout Council Mountains to Midlands, the Community Mediation Center, the Eau Claire Health Cooperative, and EdVenture Children's Museum. These agencies come together to promote community development for persons at-risk for poverty, poor health, poor family functioning, and lack of education. These 6 agencies serve all stages of the life span – from pregnancy and birth to older adults. While the missions of the agencies differ, we are all dedicated to serving the needs of vulnerable persons in South Carolina.
