Welcome to Communities In Schools of Transylvania County!
What is CIS?
Communities In Schools of Transylvania County (CISTC) joins hands in need with hands that can help. CISTC champions the connection between community resources and the children, family and schools of Transylvania County to ensure that young people successfully learn, stay in school, and are prepared for life.
About Us
Communities in Schools (CIS) is the anchor to the nation's leading community-based organization helping young people stay in school and prepare for life. Transylvania County's CIS office opened in July of 1991. CISTC responds to the needs of our community by creating community around young people and their families, and by bringing existing resources, services, parents, and volunteers into school and non-school sites. The result: Young people's needs are met, so they can concentrate on learning.
The Five Basic
All students need and deserve access to the 5 basics:
• A one-on-one relationship with a caring adult
• A safe place to learn and grow
• A healthy start and a healthy future
• A marketable skill to use upon graduation
• A chance to give back to peers and the community
All CISTC programming revolves around these basics and helping students stay in school.
